Fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays of the year.  Something about the patriotic colors, festive parades and upbeat music makes me love celebrating.  And it’s a great reason to gather together with family and friends.

But as much fun as Fourth of July is, it can also be a lot of waiting.  There is waiting for the fireworks to start.  Waiting for the band to strike a note.  And you even might have to wait for those hot dogs to finish grilling.

These Free Printable 4th of July Coloring Pages are the perfect solution to solve the waiting problem.  They are an easy way to keep kids entertained while you wait.

Why Kids Love 4th of July Coloring Pages

Coloring is one of those wonderful simple activities that we never grow out of.  I still love to color even at many decades old.

Kids in particular enjoy that they can relax, get creative and celebrate the holiday with a little whimsy at the same time.

These 7 patriotic themed coloring pages include many of my favorite Independence Day motifs.  These include

  • bald eagle
  • United States Capitol Building
  • Fourth of July parade
  • Fireworks
  • Uncle Sam hat
  • waving American flags
  • Stars and Stripes

Simply download your set of coloring pages, add some crayons (these star shaped ones would be really fun) and let the creativity begin.

How to Use at your Fourth of July Party

There are lots of ways to use these 4th of July coloring pages at your Independence Day celebration.  Here are my favorite ways to use these coloring pages.

Kids Activity Table

One of the easiest ideas for entertaining kids is setting up a space all their own.  Using a kid sized table, add some crayons, markers and colored pencils.  You can also include patriotic stickers, dot markers or Fourth of July stamps.  (affiliates)

Then, print off copies of these 4th of July coloring pages.  You can also include our Free Printable Summer Word Search.  Kids will enjoy having a space to create and socialize together.

Transform into a Favor

Thank guests for attending your Fourth of July celebration by sending them home with some patriotic coloring fun.  Pair each coloring page with a star shaped crayon or a patriotic crayon set.

Roll up the coloring page, seal with patriotic washi tape and attach a crayon in a small cello bag.  Make the party favors even more fun by using different pages for each one.  Favors complete.

Take Along to the Fireworks

We love fireworks shows, but as mentioned above, there can be a lot of waiting.  Make the waiting seem faster by taking along some coloring sheets.  Be sure to bring along clipboards too so you have a surface to color on.

Send as Patriotic Greetings

Sometimes family and friends live too far away to celebrate together on the Fourth of July.  Instead, send these 4th of July Coloring Sheets as patriotic greetings.  Have your kids color and then write a patriotic message to someone special.  Then, send your patriotic greetings.  You’re sure to spread smiles no matter how far away your favorite people live.

Host a Coloring Contest

After everyone colors their coloring sheet, hold a coloring contest.  Some fun categories could include:

  • Funniest Picture
  • Most Patriotic
  • Most Colorful
  • Best Use of Red, White and Blue
  • Most Bedazzled
  • Best American Spirit

Be sure to have some patriotic prizes (glow sticks and mini flashlights are perfect for Fourth of July) to give out to the winners.

Make a Banner

One of my favorite things to do with coloring pages at a party is transforming them into a guest made banner.  We hang twine and attach small wooden clothespins.  Then once guests complete their page, they hang it up on the twine to create a banner.  It’s a great way to celebrate everyone’s creativity and make a DIY banner at the same time.
