Rainbow ABC Birthday Party Ideas

I can’t believe that it’s been almost a year since I hosted my daughter’s Rainbow ABC Birthday Party. I finally had a chance to sort through the pictures and reflect upon all of the colorful touches that I used in this sweet rainbow party.
She had asked for a Sesame Street rainbow art birthday party. So in classic One Simple Party style, I delivered a one of a kind ABC themed rainbow party while transforming our living room into her very own art studio. Filled with her favorite Sesame Street buddies, rainbows, art projects and other alphabet fun, we hope you enjoy these fun Rainbow ABC Birthday Party Ideas.
Rainbow and Sesame Street themed food adorned the dessert table. We made rainbow cereal shooters from colorful Fruit Loops cereal rings and mini marshmallow clouds at the bottom. Rainbow fruit kabobs were made on skewer sticks and included strawberries, yellow nectarines, cantaloupe melon, green grapes, blueberries and purple grapes. Little Bug even helped me bake rainbow pinwheel cookies by tie dying sugar cookie dough and making a roll out of it. We sliced the cookies and added large rainbow sprinkles before baking.
To pay homage to Ernie’s rubber ducky friend, we transformed ordinary yogurt cups into rubber ducky bath tubs. These treats would be perfect for a rubber ducky themed baby shower or birthday party too!
I added a rainbow feel to our dining room with this gorgeous rainbow pom pom from Dyanis Memory Box (affiliate link). I love the two shades of purple a the bottom of the pom pom. They’re so pretty!
Although we originally planned on making a tie dye cake for the event, we discovered during a practice round that all of the strong food coloring was too much for little tummies. Instead, we ordered a plain white cake from the bakery and decorated it ourselves. I added colorful large rainbow sprinkles on the sides and topped the cake with this beautiful handmade rainbow pom pom cake bunting from Cupcake Wishes and Birthday Dreams (affiliate link).
I placed the cake at the top of our cupcake stand and filled in the other two levels with cupcakes. To dress up the sides of the cupcake stand, I added 3 inch punched rainbow circles. I used these same circles as confetti for the table.
Although the cupcakes were purchased from our local bakery, I used one of my favorite tricks for dressing them up – fondant cupcake toppers. These Sesame Street cupcake toppers were from EC Toppers and were a fun way to include some of Little Bug’s favorite buddies on the dessert table.
Elmo and Cookie Monster rice cereal treats seemed almost too good to eat on party day. And you’ll never guess what I made their mouths out of… smooshed Tootsie Roll candy!
For the art piece of the party, we set up a paper mache letter craft. Each guest was invited to decorate their initials using stickers, pom poms, markers, glitter glue and other fun supplies. Their works of art were beautiful and a fun piece to take home.
We decorated the “art studio” with Little Bug’s favorite Sesame Street pals. Orange rosette fans graced the fireplace and handmade rainbow paper chains hung from the mantel. This sweet handcrafted rainbow wreath by Very Own Creations was the centerpiece. We brought it back out for St. Patrick’s Day this year and it’s been a fun addition to our holiday décor.
After seeing this set of Sesame Street themed favor bags on Etsy (affiliate link), I was inspired to create DIY version. I found different colored favor bags at our local party store and created the templates for the different facial features. I will be sure to share the template patterns on our blog soon. The favor bags included a Sesame Street coloring book wrapped in rainbow chevron tissue paper, pack of crayons and Sesame Street stickers. I topped them with our “T is for Thank You” favor tags from our ABC Rainbow Party collection.
It was so much fun creating this colorful ABC rainbow birthday party for Little Bug. I loved making her vision of Sesame Street buddies, rainbow fun and some ABCs come together to make her big day special.
