We find ourselves in the summer hosting and attending bigger events. We get to meet new people all of the time. At sports events. The church picnic. Theater shows. And summer camp.

But celebrating with more guests or attending these events usually means that not everyone knows each other yet.

Bring in the perfect summer icebreaker. This Beach Ball Question Game is a great way for kids, teens and adults to learn more about each other. And discover things they didn’t know they had in common.

What is the Beach Ball Question Game

This beach ball question game is a simple, fun and interactive game. It’s sure to get everyone talking, laughing and moving around.

Like all of our favorite party games, it’s easy to set up and works for all ages. This set of Free Printable Beach Ball Questions is summer themed. It’s perfect for your summer party, summer camp or team building activity.

Of course, I also designed other sets of Beach Ball Questions. You can find them in our shop here. They can be used for any event – work meetings, first day of school, new group meet up, sports team practices, youth group or even a birthday party.

The Beach Ball Question Game is exactly what it sounds like. You print out questions and stick each label to a side of an inflated beach ball. Then, you toss the beach ball around. When someone catches it, they answer the question on the side their hands landed on.

The fun part – although this is a great conversation starting game, it’s also a good movement game. It’s sure to get even the shyest of guests talking.

Why Use Sticker Labels?

Although you could write the questions on the beach ball with a permanent marker, I prefer using the sticker labels. It makes the beach ball reusable.

When you have a different event that you want to create a Beach Ball Question Game for, simply remove the stickers and put on new ones. This way you can easily change up the questions.

Can I make it waterproof? Planning on playing the Beach Ball Question Game at a pool party or even the beach? Add a layer of clear packing tape on top of the stickers. Or print the sticker labels on waterproof label paper. (affiliate)

Best Way to Blow Up the Beach Ball

So, it turns out that beach balls are harder to blow up than they look. Or my lungs aren’t as strong as they used to be.

I found the fastest way to blow up the beach ball was to use this small electric air pump. (affiliate) It’s portable, so I can easily travel with it. And it blew the beach ball up in minutes. I was also able to easily gauge the halfway point to know when to add the stickers.

When preparing this activity, be sure to blow up the beach ball and attach the stickers way before you need the game. This way you aren’t trying to set it up while players are waiting.

How to Make a Beach Ball Question Game

You Will Need:

standard inflatable beach ball (affiliate)
sticker paper (or you can use waterproof sticker paper if you plan to use this game in the pool)
set of Beach Ball Questions (Free Printable below or set from our shop here)

Step By Step Instructions

Download your Beach Ball Questions. Print on sticker paper. Each circle measures 3 inches across. For an exact cut, use a 3 inch round paper punch. Or cut out each sticker using scissors. (affiliates)
Inflate the beach ball. Blow it up 3/4s of the way at first.
Attach the stickers. Adhere a different question sticker to each section of the beach ball. Each beach ball will use 6 questions. The Free Printable Beach Ball Questions include 12 questions. You can mix them up or create multiple beach balls.
Finish blowing up the beach ball. This will help stretch out the sticker and make sure it is taut.
Gather your group. Announce that you are going to play an ice breaker game. Tell the group how the game works.
Play the game. Toss the ball. The person who catches it answers the first question. After answering, keep the game moving. Continue tossing around the ball until everyone has had a chance to answer a couple of questions.

Creative Variations

Although I created a fun summer question version, you can transform this into a learning game. Add math facts, foreign language words and questions, test review questions for Science and Social Studies and reading response discussion ideas.

Action Game

Instead of asking questions, create an action version. Each section of the beach ball has an action to complete. Some examples include:

Do 5 jumping jacks
Spin in a circle
High five the person next to you
Hop on one foot
Touch your toes
