Cereal Treat Apples
It is officially the first week back at school in Virginia. For the last few days, it’s seemed like everything has come back to life. There are more kids around, the playgrounds are filled again and my teacher friends have returned to town. I guess it’s time to let the learning begin.
I always find it fun to celebrate the new school year with a special treat. Whether you’re welcoming your student home after the first day or you want to send something special in for the class to enjoy during the week, these rice krispie cereal apples are the perfect way to celebrate. Using the basic rice krispy cereal treat mix and covering it with chocolate, they’re easy to make and very delicious. You might even consider sending a batch to school for the teachers to share the day after back to school night. It’s a nice way to show your thanks for all of the hard work you they do.
Makes 24 apples
You will need:
1 batch of cereal treats (I used the classic recipe from Rice Krispies)
1 bag of red chocolate melts
12 pretzel sticks broken in half
6 fruit gummi candies
Wax Paper
Cookie Sheet
1. Make a batch of cereal treats. Let it cool in a bowl or baking dish. You do not need to worry about laying the mixture flat to set.
2. Once cool, roll some of the marshmallow mixture into a ball about the size of a ping pong ball. This will become your cereal treat apples. Press a small divot into the top of each ball to give it an apple like shape.
3. Dip each of the cereal treat apples into the red chocolate melts. Add half a pretzel stick to the middle for the stem and a sliver of green gummi candy for the leaf. Once your cereal treat apples are dipped and decorated, put them in the freezer for 30 minutes to an hour to set.
4. Remove the cereal treat apples from the freezer. Leave out for about 15 minutes or until thawed. Enjoy!
Having snacked on these cereal treat apples during breaks from work this week, they definitely earned an A+ as an addictive treat I can’t wait to make again!
Happy Celebrating,
Natalie
