To the surprise of no one, coffee is one of my favorite drinks.  Lattes.  Mochas.  And even a Dirty Girl.  (It’s not what you think.  Promise.  That’s just the name a local coffee shop gave my favorite coffee drink – coffee with hot cocoa.  Doesn’t it sound more exciting, though.)

But when December rolls around, it’s time to add a new little surprise to my morning coffee – peppermint and chocolate.  Sipping these two delicious flavors puts me in the holiday spirit each morning for the entire month.  And the swirl of peppermint adds a wonderful jolt to my wake up routine.

Although I have tossed a peppermint candy and piece of chocolate into my coffee to slowly diffuse in the past, there is another way I discovered that’s more efficient.  Peppermint chocolate coffee spoons.

Basically, it’s a chocolate spoon covered in crushed peppermint bits.  Stir your coffee with one of these delicious spoons and the chocolate and peppermint melts right in.

Even though you can find these sweet little spoons at kitchen and gift shops, they are so simple to make, that I recommend dipping a set of your own.  Create a collection of peppermint chocolate coffee spoons to enjoy on your December mornings.  Or you can add them to a coffee inspired Christmas gift for a handmade touch.  Attach to a coffee gift card, add to a fun coffee mug or washi tape onto a bag of coffee.  You can even send them home as a favor from your breakfast with Santa or holiday brunch.

Even kids can enjoy them as stirrers in their cups of hot cocoa this holiday season.  Nothing beats a little peppermint added to a warm hot chocolate on a cold winter night.

You Will Need:

1/2 Bag of Light Cocoa or Dark Cocoa Candy Melts

6 Candy Canes – Crushed

16 Wooden Dinner Spoons

Wax or Parchment Paper

Cookie Sheet

3 x 5 Cello Bags (affiliate)

Gold Twist Ties (affiliate)

1.  Line a cookie sheet with a long piece of waxed paper.  Crush six candy canes into small pieces.

Melt 1/2 a bag of milk chocolate candy melts using the microwave in 20 – 30 second increments.  Mix in between each time to ensure even melting.

2.  Dip the spoon into the melted chocolate.  Sprinkle bits of peppermint on top of the spoon.  Place the finished spoon on the waxed paper to harden.

3.  Once all of your spoons have hardened, you can display them as is or create pretty packaging to give them as a gift.  For the packaging, cut one inch off the bottom of the 3″ x 5″ cello bags.

Place the spoon into the cello bag.

Wrap a gold twist tie around the spoon’s handle, clasping closed the cello bag.

Aren’t those sweet?  Peppermint chocolate coffee spoons make wonderful gifts for family or friends.  Add to a coffee themed gift basket, present as a hostess gift or attach to a gift card.  They’re also a pretty addition to the dessert table of a holiday party.

What a sweet way to celebrate the holiday season.

Happy Celebrating,
