How to Make Cow Print Lanterns

Anyone else LOVE cow print? When I designed Little Bug’s Barnyard Birthday Party, I wanted to use as many cow print items as possible. She loves cows and I wanted integrate their iconic pattern into the party in many elements. Unfortunately, I found finding cow print items difficult, especially cow print lanterns. They are rare and sometimes expensive.
Even the Cow Print Scrapbook Paper was difficult to come by. After we visited the farm the first time, I envisioned hanging cow print lanterns from the trees behind the dessert table. So, when in doubt, create it yourself. And that is how these cow print lanterns came about.
You Will Need:
White 20-Inch Paper Lanterns (I used two large and two mini, but any sizes work)
Black Tissue Paper
White Glue
Paint Brush
What to Do:
1. Cut out cow splotches from the black tissue paper. Make them different shapes and sizes to interesting variety to the lanterns.
2. Mix 2 parts glue and 1 part water to create a thin adhesive. Modge Podge is a little thick for this project, but I think it might work if it is watered down.
3. Assemble each lantern.
Paint on some glue mixture. Smooth on top a cow splotch. Lightly dab some glue mixture on top. Continue adding cow splotches until you are happy with your pattern.
4. Let your lanterns dry. After they’re completely dry, you can deflate them until the party. Keep a safe place and they hold up great!
We had so much fun with these lanterns. The guests couldn’t believe I made them.
Now, I just have to come up with some place to hang them at home. I’m beginning to think Little Bug’s room or our playroom will be perfect!
Happy Celebrating,
