When they announced on the radio earlier this week that Valentine’s Day was less than a month away, I almost did a double take.  How was it possible that the beginning of January had flown by so quickly?

I still have to plan Mr. Mountaineer and Little Bug’s Valentine’s Day surprises.  And then I was hoping to come up with a special breakfast idea.  And don’t forget some classroom treats for her teachers and friends.  Valentine’s Day is starting to look a little bit like Christmas.

I had begun to brainstorm some creative printable Valentine’s Day card ideas that you could put together for family and friends.  Some people just don’t like Valentine’s Day.  When I was a kid, I romanticized that the reason must have been that they were jilted in love somewhere along the way.  (I was a big fan of Anne of Green Gables.)  But, as an adult, I understand some of the silliness that might be associated with this kind of made up holiday.

What I love about Valentine’s Day (minus the opportunity to decorate things in red and pink), is that the holiday let’s you show people that you care in small ways.  Whether it’s dropping them a sweet note, putting a candy treat on their doorstep or baking them a delicious snack, this holiday reminds us that we wouldn’t be who we are without those we love and care about.

I created three Free Printable Kids Valentine’s Day Cards that you could give to someone special – friends, classmates, kids, teachers, neighbors, family – any one that you want to show that they are important to you.  Kids can use them for teacher and classroom valentines or you can surprise someone with a special treat on this fun day.  Although the valentines can be attached to practically anything, I also included some creative packaging ideas to get you started.

Will You Bee Mine?

I love this saying’s play on words!  Will you be mine reminded me of natural sweet snacks including caramel candies, lollipops and Bit-O-Honey sweets that we used to get on Halloween night.  I’ve attached this tag to a honey bear container.  It makes a nice gift for a teacher or neighbor.  You could also add a few bags of tea to make it a sweet holiday gift basket.  You can find your free Will You Bee Mine? Valentine printables here.

Have a Dino-Mite Day

Kids love dinosaurs, so why not have them wish their friends and classmates a Dino-Mite Valentine’s Day.  These are perfect to attach to a small dinosaur figurine, bookmark, or even recycled dinosaur crayons (affiliate).  For this Valentine, I created dinosaur inspired cupcakes – a wonderful addition to Valentine’s playdate or classroom party.

To make, start with your favorite frosted cupcake.  Put a dinosaur figurine on top.  Print and cut out our free printable dino-mite valentines.  Punch a hole in one end of the valentine.  Attach around the base of the cupcake with a piece of twine or ribbon.  You can download a set of Dino-Mite Valentines here.

My Heart Pops for You

Popcorn makes a wonderful Valentine’s Day treat – not too sweet and can actually be considered healthy especially after all of the sweet treats.  Attach this popcorn inspired valentine to a cello bag filled with freshly popped goodness, a popcorn treat in your child’s lunch box or a closed popcorn box (affiliate).  What a fun gift for classmates and teachers for Valentine’s Day.

You can even spice up your popcorn by making a special Valentine’s Day inspired variety such as Confetti Popcorn or Pink Drizzled Popcorn

Another idea is to attach this Valentine to an unpopped bag of popcorn.  Teachers especially love to keep this treat in their desk for a late afternoon!  You can download your free printable My Heart Pops for You valentines here.

I hope these sweet (and salty) inspired valentines get your creative thoughts running on ways to make this Valentine’s Day extra special for those you care about.  Now, I’m going to think about some kid sayings that would match sets of Valentine’s Day stickers… “I’m stuck on you” just doesn’t seem to do it for me!
