If you’ve ever opened a business, this post will sound familiar.  Opening an online boutique isn’t like starting many businesses.  There are a lot of pieces that need to fall into place to make sure it is ready.  Unfortunately, that can also mean many delays.

The last month has been a lot about waiting.

After discovering that the printer I planned on using wouldn’t be up to printing on heavy cardstock (which I believe is the only way to print invitations and notecards), I had to replace it with a bigger and better model.  Unfortunately, that’s involved a lot of patience.  The new printer is still in UPS land and hopefully will arrive soon.  I have my fingers double crossed.

I’ve also learned a lot about web design.  Did you know that designers are different than developers?  They also like to get paid for their time, so when you have a change here and there it takes longer and costs more.  All in the name of getting the website perfect!  Luckily, after working with two amazing designers and developers, it is almost done.  Just a few more tweaks.

Katarina’s Paperie will have over 250 items in the store on opening day.  That meant that I had to compose more than 250 product descriptions.  We also had to take more than 250 product photos.  After working most weekends for the last 2 months, I can say we’re almost done.

My husband couldn’t have been more supportive in this process and I am excited to celebrate the opening of the store with him.  It wouldn’t have happened if he hadn’t been so determined to learn how to take pictures!

So as I write this and finish up the last website and shipping tweaks, I have to admit to myself that my goal of opening Monday doesn’t look possible now.  With a still absent printer and awaiting approval on some odds and ends, it looks like the following week it will have to be.  The one thing I was trying to avoid was an August opening!

But I promise, Katarina’s Paperie will have some amazing deals the first week that will be worth a break in your summer vacation to pop in!  And after such a hot summer, it’ll be nice to be come by while basking in air conditioning.

Thank you to everyone for all of your support during this process.  It’s been a ton of fun and I can’t wait to unveil everything soon!

Happy Celebrating,
Natalie
