I grew up in a world where there were no screens at the dinner table. Not because we didn’t want them, but because they didn’t exist.
When we went out to eat, my parents would bring little toys (I recently found a farm set my Mom would put in her purse) or pencil and paper games. If we forgot the paper games, we would play on the back of a napkin, paper placemat or even table covering. You could always find a spare crayon, pen or pencil lying around.
We decided to raise our family in the same way. They have never been allowed to watch screens at the dinner table – especially if we go out to eat at a restaurant. We believe this has encouraged them to learn to follow conversation and speak up when they have something to add.
I have been excited about a recent trend of parents not handing kids screens as often when we go out to eat. Seems this next generation of parents is moving away from screen time while eating. Instead, I see little ones flipping through books, coloring or even organizing the sugar packets (another favorite).
It isn’t easy to try to entertain your own kids while your at a restaurant. Great job parents.
But, there are still those moments when kids get bored too. And I like to be prepared in case there isn’t a kids menu or other thing to play.

The Design
I made these Free Printable Tic Tac Toe Boards colorful and fun. I played with the X’s and O’s on the bottom, but this is just part of the whimsy of the design. Not to actually cut out to use.
I used bright bold colors for “Tic Tac Toe” at the top so you can use this for any moment. Party. Holiday. Neighborhood get together. Road trip. The generic colors don’t have to match any specific event. They can be used any time – anywhere.
How to Play
The best part about Tic Tac Toe is that everyone knows how to play it. It’s a universal game. But here’s a quick refresher, just in case.
One person plays X’s and the other person plays O’s. One person puts their X or O into the grid. Then, the next person follows. Play continues until one person makes three in a row.
Ways to Use at a Party
