Valentine's Day Cookie Mix in a Jar

I know what you’re thinking.  A Valentine cookie mix in a jar gift for Valentine’s Day?  Aren’t those usually given around Christmas time.

It turns out that cookies are a fantastic homemade gift idea all year round.  And giving cookies around Valentine’s Day is one of the best ways to show your love for someone.

And giving them a Valentine’s Day cookie mix in a jar to make whenever they want?  It might be one of the sweetest ways to say that you care.

The problem with a lot recipes for mason jar cookie mix gifts is that they are very Christmas focused.  A quick search on Pinterest and you’ll easily find Reindeer Cookies, gingerbread cookies and ones to specially make for Santa.  Valentine’s Day mason jar cookie mixes are a lot harder to find.

But cookie mix in a jar gifts are great for all year round – not just Christmas.  Wouldn’t you want one of these showing up at your door on Valentine’s Day?

So, I created my own cookie mix in a jar that could be made for Valentine’s Day.  To give the mix and cookies a Valentine touch, I used Valentine’s Day themed M&Ms and dried cranberries.  The reds and pinks made the cookies look wonderfully festive.

And you want to use it for another holiday?  Just change out the color of the M&Ms and gift this cookie mix whenever you desire.

You can find the recipe below.  I was inspired by the Cowboy Cookies recipe from Bakerella.  (If you remember, she is the cake pops queen that I am obsessed over.)

The secret to getting a “pretty” look with your mason jar is careful layering of the ingredients on top of each other.  I used a smooth Ball Regular Mouth Quart Jar (affiliate). You can get one from your local craft store or online.

Here are the ingredients you need to put into your Valentine cookie mix in a jar:

1 1/3 cup all purpose flour, spooned into measuring cup & leveled
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup cooking oats
1/2 cup m&ms
1/4 cup white chocolate chips
1/4 cup dried cranberries
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup white sugar

Layer the ingredients in the jar like this:

Layer 2 – Cooking Oats

Layer 3 – Valentine’s Day colored M&Ms

Layer 4 – White Chocolate Chips

Layer 5 – Dried Cranberries

Layer 6 – Brown sugar

Layer 7 – Granulated sugar

Doesn’t that look pretty?  I loved all of the red, pink and white in the layers.  It’s such a festive Valentine’s Day gift.

Free printable labels for Valentine's Day cookies in a jar mix by Katarina's Paperie.

Of course, in order to make the cookies from the mix, the recipient will need instructions for baking the cookies.  I created a free printable Valentine's Day cookie mix labels with the extra ingredients needed as well as baking instructions.

To make your labels, print on 8.5″ x 11″ full sheet label paper or medium white cardstock (affiliate).  Cut out and attach to the back of the jar mix.

On the front of your cookies mix in a jar, add our free printable circle label.  It says “Valentine’s Day Cookie Mix” so your recipient knows exactly the kind of cookies he or she gets to make.  You can use a 2.5″ circle punch for easy cutting or hand cut with scissors (affiliate)

For the gift tag, I used our Editable Valentine’s Day Cookie Tag from our shop.  If you’re a fan of giving cookies on Valentine’s Day, these tags are perfect for your fresh baked cookies, store bought treats or cookie in a jar mixes.

Our Valentine's Day cookies in a jar mix is easy to make and easy to give.

How to Make your Valentine Cookie Mix in a Jar

To make your cookies, pour all of the ingredients from the jar into a large mixing bowl.

Add in
1 slightly beaten egg
1/2 cup butter (melted slightly in the microwave)
1 teaspoon vanilla

Mix the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients using a wooden spoon or spatula.  If you have difficulty mixing, use your hands to get the ingredients well incorporated.

After you mix your cookie dough, roll into golf ball sized balls. Make as a family for a fun Valentine's Day activity.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.  Roll the cookies into 1 1/2 inch balls and placed on an ungreased cookie sheet. (Or use a silicone baking mat. Once you do, you will never go back.)

The results are in! These cookies are delicious. Valentine's Day cookie mix in a jar is the perfect sweet gift without having to bake.

Bake in the oven for 10 minutes (longer if you have an oven like mine that takes longer to bake).  The cookies should be fully cooked – not raw in the middle.

We handed out our Valentine’s Day cookie mix jars to our neighbors and the kids’ teachers to spread cheer this Valentine’s Day.  I added our new editable Cookies and Milk Valentine’s Day tags from the shop.  The jars looked so pretty when we finished them.  It was a great way to show our teachers and neighbors how much we care about them.  Especially in the winter months when it’s cold and gray outside.  And it refuses to snow.

Other Valentine Cookie Mix in a Jar Ideas

In case you don’t want to use this jar mix recipe, but want to try another variety this Valentine’s Day, here are some other favorite cookie mixes that can be made for heart day.  They are the perfect way to express your love and care this Valentine’s Day.  The best part about these mixes are they don’t have a strong Christmas theme.  So you can use them for other holidays or even birthdays too.
