Free Printable Winter Charades

The buzz started earlier this week. “Snowstorm of the Century” rang out on my social media weather feeds.
Honestly, I had my doubts. But as the cancellations stacked up about midweek in response to the potential winter weather, I started to wonder if we finally might get a decent snowstorm.
And if we really were going to get 12 inches plus of snow, it called for a celebration. I stocked up on hot cocoa, whipped cream and baking supplies.
Because if I’m going to be stuck inside for at least two days, we need baked goods. Lots of baked goods. They’re good fuel after shoveling.
In addition to the planned baking extravaganza, I designed these Free Printable Winter Charades. Although I like having board games on hand during a good snowstorm, I also like an unexpected game that doesn’t require too much prep. Plus I like some excitement in the middle of blowing snow.
How to Make Winter Charades
The best part about these Free Printable Winter Charades is that I get to share them with you. Just in case you are sitting in the middle of the same snowstorm. Or any winter event really.
To make your own set, start by downloading the Free Printable Winter Charades below. Then, print on medium to heavy cardstock. (You can find our favorite white cardstock here and easy printing directions if needed. (affiliate))
After you’ve printed the charade cards, cut them out. Place them in a bag, container or even just face down on the table. Then, you are ready for play.
Winter Charades List
For this Free Printable Winter Charades Game, I have included some of my favorite winter words and phrases. There are 18 cards in all. I chose things that are fun to act out and guess. They are:
- playing ice hockey
- drinking hot cocoa
- shoveling snow
- hibernating bear
- sleigh ride
- chopping wood
- below zero
- snowball fight
- snow globe
- catch a snowflake
- ice fishing
- melting snowman
- going sledding
- ice skating
- roasting marshmallows
- penguin
- putting on a coat
- polar bear
Ways to Play Winter Charades
Although you could play winter charades with the classic format, there are lots of other variations that you can try.
In the classic charades game, players act out the winter words and phrases without any talking, sounds or props.
But if the snow is deep outside and you want to give your charades game a bit of a twist, here are some other winter charade game ideas to try.
Timed Blizzard
Play the classic way, but with a timer. Set the timer for 30 seconds. If the team doesn’t guess before the timer runs out, the turn freezes and passes to the next person.
Snowball Steal
In this version, if the acting team can’t guess, then the opposing team gets a chance. If they guess correctly, they “steal” the point.
Winter Draw It
Players draw the words instead of acting them out.
Blizzard Rescue
The player starts by acting out the clue. If no one guesses in 20 seconds, they switch to drawing for the remaining time.
Mystery Model Bag
In this version of winter charades, players use clay to build the clue instead of acting. The builder reads the clue and then puts it back in the discard pile. They must sculpt the clue without looking at the word again.
Snowstorm Team Relay
Before play begins, set up three stations – Acting, Drawing and Clay. Teams rotate each round and play using different methods. Teams earn points for each correct guess.
Avalanche Mode
This charades version is the classic game in reverse. It can result in loud, silly and fast paced fun. One player guesses while the entire group acts out the winter clue together. If a player guesses correctly, they get a point. Then, the play passes to the next player. The team with the most number of points at the end of play, wins.
