We have been talking a lot about Christmas lately.  The reality is when you have teens, Christmas changes.  The gifts under the tree don’t look quite as vast and their wish list seems to shrink.  These days, it might even go more digital.

A few years ago, my husband and I started a Christmas tradition of only exchanging stockings.  Now not to mislead anyone, these are pretty big stockings.  And sometimes we don’t quite follow all of the guidelines.

But generally speaking, the rule goes that all of the gifts given MUST fit in the stocking.

Suddenly, gift giving became fun again.  I spent the year scouring little gift shops on our travels to find items that were small enough to fit in a stocking, but things that he would use and bring him joy.  What a fun challenge!

Over the years, he’s received the normal tee shirt and socks.  But also a spade for the garden, bottle of his favorite root beer and a new wallet.

So this year, with the kids’ wish lists shrinking and the fact that we just purged tons of things that they no longer play with, I suggested they try the stockings tradition too.

Although we still plan to have some bigger gifts under the tree, there is a limit (probably 5) and I’m sticking to our Christmas wish list categories to choose them.  Everything else needs to fit in their stocking.

But where does one start with stocking stuffers for teens?  My brainstorming has led me to this list of favorite teen stocking stuffers.

I have included ones that are useable, some that are just for fun and tried to hit upon lots of different interests.

Because, let’s face it, teens are multifaceted people.

And lastly, if in doubt on what to put in your teen’s stocking, put a gift card to their favorite shopping destination.  Or cash to pay for gas, snacks or anything else they can think of.  Either of these things are sure to bring them joy on Christmas morning.
